Random sitings

So as we go about our day to day lives we see some random things and on occasion we have our camera!
This group was just sitting at a table with these huge balloon hats on?  Don't know why, just having fun I guess?
This guy realised we were going to take his photo so kept walking away from us.  You'll notice his pack has a different kind of collection of things to our army guys.  On the top of his pack is his straw mat to sleep on, probably has a hammock inside.  The unusual thing is the set of chopsticks and fork and spoon that are also in the top of his shoulder strap area.  His boots are calico.

I quite like that girls hair randomly as well?

This little boy was all dressed up as a soldier/policeman today for the Independence Day celebrations....though he was so cute.  He's used to getting his picture taken though, he posed straight away for this shot.

At one event we saw going on these official helpers sitting down having their lunch in the traditional Ao Dai costume.  They always pull the skirts over to sit down so they don't get crushed I guess?

One of the things that makes us nervous sometimes about eating the food here is the food storage situation.  We never buy meat off the streets as it's left sitting out for a long time with flies etc moving around.  The seafood is usually still alive so stays fressh.  At a restaurant we went to one time we looked over in the kitchen area and the big pot you can see in the middle of the shot is full of chicken, the white stuff.  Needless to say we didn't order the chicken??

I love Vietnamese food!  1st level Pizza, 2nd level Burgers, 3rd level Fried Chicken, got it all covered.

Again a random siting, this baby rabbit was just hanging around in front of someones house...unsure if it was going to be food eventually or a pet but it was pretty cute.
Finally just a couple of tourist shots.  This is Ben Thanh market at night, they light it up and it looks pretty good.  Where we are sitting is in the 'park' I know there isn't any grass in this particular spot but it's a great place for kids to kick a ball around and play with the different toys you can buy off the street sellers there.  We have often spent time just watching the kids and the goings on there.
The Caravelle hotel one of the hotels where I teach English to the staff. Quite an iconic place, was the headquarters for the New Zealand and Australian Embassies during the war time.
The Continental Hotel, for anyone who has seen 'The Quiet American' its where the author and the character sat many times in his book.  He stayed in this hotel while writing the book apparently.
The main Government building with Uncle Ho in front of it.  Beautiful at night.
Notre Dam Cathedral, took this today.
A shot from the Caravelle Hotel at sunset.  The tall building is the Vincom Centre where the Australian Consulate, loads of offices and apartments are plus a shopping centre underneath.  We lived right beside that when we first arrived here for 2 months.

That's all of my ramblings for now.

Have a new blog planned to do coming soon....'Servicing the Consumer in HCMC'.
